Job Summary Statement The Nurse Tech works under the direction of the RN/LPN.
The responsibilities of the Nurse Tech include providing direct patient care and maintaining patient care standards.
The Nurse Tech must exhibit the ability to work with people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds; to organize, set priorities and manage multiple, priorities and to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
The following statements reflect the general duties considered necessary to describe the principal functions of the job as identified and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements, which may be inherent in the position.
Responsibilities:
Provides basic and select advanced nursing care to patients within the Nurse Tech scope of practice that includes actions that meet psychosocial, cultural, spiritual, and physical needs.
Advanced nursing activities that may be delegated to the competent Nurse Tech by the RN/LPN include simple dressing changes, phlebotomy, PIV removal, routine medication administration, and more as defined by policy.
Performs patient care responsibilities considering needs specific to the standard of care for patient's age, gender, socioeconomic status, education, physical and mental abilities, and racial and ethnic background.
Assists in admission, transfer and discharge of patients.
Provides explanation to patients and families prior to administering care; answers questions within scope of practiceDemonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function appropriately in stressful situations.
Responds to patients in emergency or physically distressing situations.
Documentation meets current standards and policies.
Assumes accountability for appropriate utilization of resourcesPerforms other duties as assigned, within the Nurse Tech scope of practice.
Education/Licensure/Certification/Experience/Skills RequirementsEducation:
High School/GED required.
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
Completed a minimum of 2 semesters of clinical experience within an academic nursing program.
Completed the following educational courses and clinical
Experience:
Fundamentals of Nursing and Pharmacology including medication administration.
Currently enrolled and in good standing in an accredited Associate Degree, Diploma or Baccalaureate Professional Nursing Program.
Nursing graduates pending completion of NCLEX are also eligible.
License/Certification:
BLS required before conclusion of orientation period.
Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) or equivalent preferred.
